Happy Havens’ 2012 Top Vacuum Awards

With thousands upon thousands of vacuum cleaner models out there, ever wonder which are the best of the best? Happy Havens is hosting our very own 2012 Top Vacuum Awards (TVA) telling you who wins best of category with different superlatives, regardless of the type of vacuum you like!

hoover-linxBest Upright: Hoover Platinum LiNX Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner

Runner-up: Dyson DC40 Multi Floor Upright

This genius vacuum has 4.5 stars on Amazon and is packed with a ton of smart features every upright vacuum cleaner should really have. First of all, the design is sleek and sexy with a great silver, red and black design. It just looks like 21st century vacuum for the innovative homeowner. A big problem with bagless cleaners is that they can puff dirt in your face when opened if not designed correctly.

But the Hoover LiNX is smart: the dirt cup releases from the bottom, so you can dump the dust straight to the trash. Why haven’t other vacuums adopted this user-friendly feature? A truly transparent dirt cup is also always a plus so you can see when it’s time to empty it. The base plate is narrow rather than wide, so it can reach between chair legs and tight furniture spaces and right along walls. Another thing we love about this vacuum is that it is cordless so you can vacuum anywhere.

A big hassle with upright vacuums is hooking up extension cords that may or may not reach and trying to get everyone to not trip over them – with a powerful lithium ion battery, you’re good to go. A brush roll switch at the handle allows you to switch between rugs and thick carpets. It also has a low profile base so it can get up underneath furniture – another feature every upright vacuum should have.

Best Robot: Neato XV-21 & XV-11

Runner-up: iRobot Roomba 770

Sorry Roomba, but Neato’s top vacuums have higher ratings and more features with a lower price tag. Plus they resemble a Super Nintendo gaming system that shoots laser beams to remember what rooms look like, which is pretty tough to beat. We love that this robotic vacuum returns to its own docking station when it needs to be recharged and can be set for daily cleaning. Reviewers loved how effective and thorough its cleaning was.

The Neato XV-21 and 11 are really smart and can avoid falling down stairs and will get right up next to walls and can find its way underneath furniture and into crevices. The XV-21 is designed for pet and allergy relief, specifically with filters to pick up and handle a lot of pet hair and dander. The silver/grey Neato XV-11 is multi-floor designed and a little cheaper than the XV-21. Both models automatically adjust to best clean the floor type and can clean in a thorough back and forth pattern similar to a traditional vacuuming job.

Like we mentioned before, the Neato robot vacuum is unique in that is uses laser technology to map your house to remember where things are. Not only that, it can detect where it left off when it goes to charge as well as update its map as you add new furniture or objects to your rooms.

Best Canister: Meile S2121 Olympus Canister Vacuum

Runner-up: Panasonic MC-CG902 Canister

Other than that this Miele canister looks like a stylish prop straight off the set of Tron (or a futuristic storm trooper turned canister vacuum, whichever you prefer), it is high quality and has a lot of features that we love. First of all, unique in the canister vacuum world, the canister itself is not fixed and can move in all directions, making it very maneuverable. It may be small, but it has reach – a 29.5 foot cleaning radius. The XXL handle is stainless steel, and it comes with all the specs and gadgets you would want – it’s lightweight and comes with a dusting brush, crevice nozzle, and upholstery tool. Miele vacuums are manufactured in Germany and are known for high quality and performance.

Although being lightweight and high quality is awesome, a more important quality in a vacuum is its suction power and versatility with different floor types. Miele solved this problem by offering six stage suction with a dial that can be adjusted on the canister, so you will have the right power for virtually every floor type and never have to worry about overpowering delicate rugs and hardwood floors or not having enough suction for thick carpets.

Best Cordless: Dyson DC35 Digital Slim

No top vacuum awards are complete without a Dyson, a British company known for their highly-sought-after luxury vacuums. And just look at that sleek little beauty. Not to mention, Happy Havens is giving away a free Dyson Digital Slim just in time for Christmas! Check out our giveaway page! The vacuum has actually already arrived here and is eagerly awaiting its new owner.

That being said, this cordless vacuum has a lot of features that just make sense. It reaches the floor to be easily held from wrist level and has a button-activated hygienic emptying bin that empties downwards with no puff or mess when emptied. Dyson vacuums are known for their powerful motors. While its lithium ion battery’s life may be a bit shorter than other cordless vacuums, this is done so it can maintain a consistent no-fade suction the whole 15 minutes.

The docking station wall mount makes the vacuum very readily accessible, and with its beautiful design it is not something you would be ashamed to have hanging on your wall at all. While Dyson is often a household name and many people use their products to show off to friends and neighbors, the handy DC35 digital slim is packed with multi-floor friendly and easy-use features and has all the the tools. Its cleaning head also moves 180°.

So there you have it…Happy Havens’ first year of vacuum awards. As one Amazon reviewer once put it, “Life is too short to vacuum for more than 15 minutes.” We hope this post was informative and gave you a review on a vacuum that might just change your quality of life!
