iRobot

Robotic technology in the home has become an affordable reality for today’s consumer. The inspiration for building robots that can perform cleaning tasks efficiently and accurately came from the robotics labs at MIT. The result was the iRobot Corporation which has been making and selling robots since 1990. The iRobot Corporation now employs over 600 professionals from the field of robotics. Their Roomba Robotic Vacuum Cleaner was their first successful product, soon followed by a floor-washing robot (the Scooba), a pool-cleaning robot (the Veroo), and a gutter cleaning robot (the Looj).

In addition to creating robots for home use, the iRobot Corporation builds military robots, which are able to perform an array of dangerous missions, keeping military personnel out of harm’s way. iRobot is also dedicated to education and research, including SPARK (Starter Programs for the Advancement of Robotics Knowledge), an educational outreach program for teachers and students. With more than two decades of experience, the iRobot has fostered innovation in the industry and provided consumers, the military, and educators with quality products.
